I guess it makes sense the Washington Commanders would name their Offensive Coordinator before their Defensive Coordinator. And promote from within at that.
I might be wrong.
But it is different for a Defense ranked last in the league. An overhaul is likelier the need there. Hard to do especially if a buddy system is in place.
Dan Quinn is notorious for getting sick to the stomach over firing people. Once again, the Offense is ahead of the Defense.
The Offense really doesn't, at this juncture, need an overhaul. While their timing on the running game needed an upgrade, which they ostensibly got with Prodigy Blough, they ran for 2290 yards.
The Shanahan Coaching tree ran for 2152 (Rams), 1817 (49ers), and 2037 (Packers) respectively. Those are the systems Fans seem to envy.
Kliff did better yardage wise. So it makes sense to turn the keys over to one of his students.
There was a dramatic drop for the Commanders in Time of Possession which was not good news for a battered and aged defense.
In 2024, Washington was 7th in the league at 30 minutes 51 seconds a game.
In 2025, Washington fell to 28th in the league at 28 minutes 26 seconds a game.
Eight of the Top Ten Teams in Time of Possession were in the playoffs this year. The same for 2024.
The Super Bowl Champion Eagles led the league in 2024 at 32 minutes 21 seconds.
If you are thinking of basing your Super Bowl Pick on Time of Possession, the League Leader this year was the Buffalo Bills. The highest NFC team left in the playoffs was the Chicago Bears. Thus, a Bears-Bills Super Bowl.
Now let's get to Round One of the Draft. Washington is currently at No. 7.
Using Pro Football Network's Mock Draft Simulator, three out of five drafts came up Caleb Downs as the Number Seven Pick. Best Available.
Keldric Faulk came up once. Highest edge on the board.
Arvell Reese came up once. Best player available; some predict the Number One Player taken.
The Databases they are using are PFN, The Athletic, PFF, ESPN, and Consensus.
There were multiple pick trade offers for the Number Seven Pick.
I don't know what everybody else is getting with their mocks.
But it seems Adam Peters will get a few phone calls. And the League likes what it sees in the Top Ten Picks this year.
Do you go for that impact player or for more contributors?
Here are the receipts:
